Psychology
The Psychology (Clinical Psychology) department in Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) is providing psychological services to the community in a very effective way. The mission of clinical psychology department in PIMH is to help in improving mental, behavioral and physical health of psychologically disturbed patients. It also aims to improve the effectiveness, quality, and value of psychological services.
The department comprises qualified Senior Clinical Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists. For psychotherapy, all paradigms of psychotherapy are applied that includes individual, family and group therapy. The paradigms and modalities used for psychotherapy are mostly Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). A structured rehabilitation program for both male and female patients provides assistance in making them more respectable and functional members of society.
The department has its own psychological testing lab equipped with many psychological tests that are used for assessment purposes.
The department is committed to excellence in providing services. Our faculty is competent and knows the science of psychology and its application to real-world situations. The basic goal of our department is to improve cognitive, behavioral, and physical health by promoting clinical practices based on the best available evidence.

- Psychological assessment of psychiatric patients
- Planning and providing psychotherapy and therapeutic interventions to psychiatric patients
- Providing outdoor services for assessment and management of patients
- Family counselling and psychoeducation
- Psychological assessment of medico legal cases
- Group therapy for indoor patients
- Providing rehabilitation services to inpatients for making them functional members of society
- Assessment, management and group therapy facilities for clients with substance use disorder
- Developing liaison and collaboration with psychology departments of HEC recognized universities
- Having very successful Internship program and supervision of internees enrolled in clinical psychology programs
- Developing Research Cell services and Institutional Review Board for conducting research activities and data collection
- Academic activities for professional growth like conducting and arranging workshops, trainings and seminars
